The young and adult beneficiaries of Caritas Athens got a sense of the festive and entertaining Athens thanks to the three different activities organized by the Social Integration Refugee Sector and the provision of free tickets aiming at their integration into the social fabric as well as their creative entertainment.
Families that met the selection criteria (their children go to school, attend their classes and understand the Greek language, and parents have signed the agreement of the corresponding Program and are consistent both in attending Greek courses, and trying to find a job) had the opportunity to watch for the first time in Greece a spectacular theatrical performance. On Saturday, December 1st thirteen people enjoyed at the Pallas Theater the award-winning musical “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”, based on Victor Hugo’s classic novel.
The show, preserving the essence and style of the original, approached, emotionally, humorously, sensitively and with a lot of songs, the diachronicity of the well-known French writer. Diversity, social distinctions, authoritarianism and the arbitrary powers that indirectly manipulate the simple human being and, of course, pure and unselfish love, which touches on the absolute offer and the essential love, were presented in a simple way so that children of all ages were able to watch the show with interest, while perceiving the moral teaching of this universal history.
The role of the good-hearted Quasimodo was envisioned by Dimitris Piatas and the one of enchanting Esmeralda by Nadia Kontogeorgi. They were framed by a large group of actors such as Th. Katsafados, G. Symeonidis, as well as dancers, acrobats and singers.
Four days later, on Wednesday, December 5, twenty children who do not go to school or are not yet registered and reside in the shelters of our Organization in Gyzi, Moschato and America Square have been exposed for the first time to ice skating, in the ice rink of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, and played in the special areas of the Park.
Last, but not least, the “The Window of the Elves”, the Christmas Theme Park of the Technopolis of the City of Athens, in Gazi, was visited by hosted children in order to spend pleasantly in a festive environment, escaping for a while from their everyday life.
