The two-day exhibition “Art, Design and Recycling” with objects made from recycled materials and created by children of Caritas Athens was marked by big success. The exhibition took place at the Theotokopoulos residency of the municipality of Athens, in Patisia!
The visitors had the opportunity to admire the creations of the young artists, who are hosted in the Organization’s shelters, as well as configure their own creative structures with the guidance of the volunteer-artist, Ms. Eleni Mitsolidou.
The main goal of this action was the realization of the role and the meaning of recycling, as well as the responsibility children hold when it comes to the environment’s quality and furthermore their own lives, as they discover a hidden treasure, which most people consider only as …garbage!
It’s important to note that the Theotokopoulos Residence of the Municipality of Athens functions since last February as a new epicenter of expression, hosting cultural, educational, and entertaining activities, and providing shelter to all the creative groups in town.
It is a two-floor, preservable, neo-classical building that was built during the 1920’s in a 3300m² orchard. After many changes in its use and with the contribution of the locals, the estate was bought at the end of 2005 by the Municipality of Athens, which restored it to convert it to a vibrant nucleus of culture, with Stavros Niarchos Foundation as a founding benefactor.
