The Social Integration Team of Caritas Athens, together with other organizations and 5,000 citizens, sent a strong message on climate change, building the largest mosaic with 35,000 recyclable materials, with an area of 357.5 square meters, achieving a Guinness World Record!
The “Athens against Climate Change” event took place on Saturday, October 13th at the “Kallimarmaro” Panathenaic Stadium, under the auspices of the Hellenic Olympic Committee and the Connect Athens Youth Center.
The construction of the mosaic began at 06:37 and was completed at 17:30 with the participation of 1,100 volunteers and 5,000 visitors. Among them, the families of refugees from the Caritas Athens shelters, who participated in the construction, as well as in parallel actions such as workshops for the creation of clothes from recyclable materials, painting / face painting, dance, music and experiential games for children and adults.
This special celebration, bringing the young beneficiaries closer to the concept of recycling, was an opportunity for the citizens of the capital to show that they have a voice and send a global message bringing recyclable materials made of aluminum, cardboard and plastic white or black!
