Faithful to the call of the Church for the World Day of the Poor, Caritas Athens “Street Team” in cooperation with “Young Caritas in Action”, offered a hot meal to the homeless in downtown Athens.
On the occasion of the first world celebration, established following Pope Francis’ wish, volunteers at their turn need to express their gratitude to: Savvas, Adam, Raphael, Ivan, Thanassis, Gregory, Ali and our anonymous brothers who, other than offering food, also had a human encounter and exchanged words.
People living on the street do not have needs strictly limited to material goods, they are also thirsty for human interaction. Volunteers from the “Street Team” have grown familiar with them, understanding their needs which they attempt to fulfill at every single encounter.
The team assists our fellow human beings living on the street, specifically in the broader areas of Syntagma and Omonoia squares, twice a month (Monday) offering food, clothes or any other necessities. The action began last May on a pilot scheme. Anyone interested to support or to participate may contact Caritas Athens via email at firstname.lastname@example.org
