The standard function for the cutting of the New Year’s cake, which is organized every year by Caritas Athens for the ladies hosted at the retirement home “Holy Cross” (“Timios Stavros”) in Agia Paraskevi, took place in a festive atmosphere and with the presence of… Santa Claus on Monday, January 14th.
The festive atmosphere was enhanced by live music, songs, dancing, snacks, presents and abundant joy!
The function was attended by the Very Reverend and former Archbishop of the Catholics of Athens, fr. Nikolaos Foskolos, who cut the New Year’s cake , the Vice- President & Director of the Organization, fr. Ioannis Patsis, the members of the Administration Board Ms. Elissavet Ioustinianou-Merrit ( Secretary) and Mr. Stanislaos Stouraitis (Treasurer), the former member of the Administration Board, Ms. Maria Miliari, the members of Caritas Athens Ms. Katiana and Maria Yiaman , Mr Nikiforos Filippousis (in the role of Santa Claus), relatives of the hosted ladies and the nursing home employees.
The New Year’s lucky one, who found the lucky coin, received a symbolic gift and she danced to the rhythm of famous tunes rendered by the famous verse writer and singer Mr Christos Thessalonikefs with his guitar, motivating the other ladies to take an active part and sing with him.
With regard to this function, which constituted a pleasant, although short, break from all those endless lonely hours that the inmates of the nursing home are going through, Caritas Athens wants to motivate all those people sensitized for people of this age group, and those having time and are willing, to visit the two nursing homes of our Archdiocese (“Timios Stavros” and “Kalos Samaritis”), keeping company to those people, something they badly need.
