-EMERGENCY POVERTY RELIEF – SOCIAL GUIDANCE ON INTEGRATION OF VULNERABLE MIGRANTS IN ATHENS

Co-financed actions of the Refugee Program:

Food distribution -Clothes Distribution -Distribution of baby food and toiletries -Social Services -Language courses -Creative play for children -Payroll for CARITAS ATHENS’ four employees -Group sessions to offer counseling on pregnancy, supported by a volunteer midwife from Hippocration Athens’ General Hospital, two social workers, and three interpreters from Caritas Athens.

-EMERGENCY HUMANITARIAN RELIEF TO THE BALKANS – START I

Within the frame work of the program we distributed 2,372 jackets, 2,403 raincoats, 2,168 pairs of shoes, 2,855 pairs of socks, and 2,468 underwear to 3,036 refugee beneficiaries. We also launched the operation of new toilets and shower facilities for the needs of the Refugee Program’s beneficiaries at 52, Kapodistriou street, as well as the Day Center for Refugee Families at Victoria Square (8, Ainianos street), seeing to cover their most basic needs (personal hygiene, food, children care and play, distribution of clothing and web access). We run information campaigns for refugees at the port of Piraeus thrice a week and daily at Victoria Square, distributing 10,426 flyers with practical information in English, Arabic, and Farsi.

It is worth noting that the model Day Center was awarded an international prize for innovative spaces in 2016 for resembling a House rather than a Service. World Future Council, Filia Die Frauenstiftung Institute & UN Women, ranked it among SPACES category, where the beneficiaries would not need to take an appointment and decide whether and when they should share their concerns with counselors.

-RELIEF FOR REFUGEES & MIGRANTS – START II

The program enabled 43,793 (119% off in altar get) refugees and migrants to enjoy a dignified, safe, and secured accommodation. Half (50%) the beneficiaries did not receive any help from the Greek State, given they were accommodated in unofficial refugee camps.

-Psychosocial support -Information services -Distribution of prepaid cards to refugees /migrants accommodated in Camps at Skaramangas and Elliniko concurrently run with Caritas Hellas.

Support to the Refugee Program’s activities

HELP CENTER-HELP COMMUNITY FOR VULNERABLE PERSONS

A Help Center began operating in down town Athens (8, Emmanouil Benaki street), inaugurated by Cardinal Montenegro, Caritas Italiana President, on July 26th, while we offered financial aid to the Refugee Program’s Soup Kitchen.

The Help Center aspires to offer professional psychosocial support to migrants, refugees, and mostly Greeks originating from local parishes of Athens’ Catholic Archdiocese, staffed with competent employees through actions, such as: counselling sessions, creative play, indoors and outdoors activities to socialize and develop skills, as well as to integrate into society.

-LOVING AND OFFERING by Caritas Hellas

Duration: January 2016 – February2018

Financial aid to 180 families in different areas, covering their expenses, such as for rent, utility bills, food and medication, depending on a family’s financial situation.

SUPPORT FOR THE ELDERLY

Donor: ΤΙΜΑ Benefit Foundation

Duration: May 2016 – April 2017

Aid to senior persons at home, offering them goods and services alike, such as moral support, company, and paramedical items, as well as entertainment organizing excursions and attending cultural events.

-FOOD DISTRIBUTION TO VULNERABLE FAMILIES

Distribution of food packages to forty-six (46) vulnerable families.
