Refugee Program’s co-financed actions:
Food distribution – Distribution of clothing – Distribution of baby food and toiletries – Social Services -Language lessons – Creative play for children – Remuneration of four employees on Caritas Athens payroll – Group sessions for pregnancy advice with the support of a volunteer Midwife from Athens’ Hippokrateio General Hospital, two Social Workers and three Interpreters from Caritas Athens.
– EMERGENCY HUMANITARIAN AID TO THE BALKANS – START I
Project duration: November 2015 – 30 April 2016
Within the program’s scope 3,036 refugees received 2,372 winter jackets, 2,403 rain coats, 2,168 pairs of shoes, 2,855 pairs of socks and 2,468 underwear; bathroom fixtures and showers at 52, Kapodistriou Str. were renovated for the Refugee Program’s beneficiaries; a Day Center for the Families of Refugees began operating at Plateia Victorias (8, Ainianos str.), covering their basic needs (personal hygiene, food, children care and play, distribution of clothing and Ιnternet access). Information campaigns for the refugees ran three times a week at Piraeus port and daily at Plateia Victorias, through 10,426 hand-outs written in English, Arab and Farsi.
It should be noted that the Day Center was awarded an international prize for innovative spaces in 2016, based on its homely appearance that differentiates it from a usual Service building. World Future Council, Filia Die Frauenstiftung Institute & UN Women, ranked it among SPACES category, where the beneficiaries would not need to take an appointment before going and should decide for themselves whether and when they should share their concerns with counselors.
-RELIEF FOR REFUGEES /MIGRANTS- START II
Project duration: 1/04/2016 – 31/08/2016
The program enabled 43,793 (overall target’s 119%) refugees and migrants to enjoy a decent, safe and protected living. A 50% of the beneficiaries had not received any kind of support from the Greek State because they were not accommodated in the official refugee camps.
Offers included: Food distribution – Shower – Safe playgrounds – Distribution of ATM cards – Psychological and social support – Information services – Distribution of prepaid cards to refugees / migrants accommodated in camps at Skaramangas and Elliniko with Caritas Hellas.
- Support in distributing snack to students at the cross-cultural school of Alsoupolis.
- Support in the cost of the Refugee Program’s Soup Kitchen.

– HELP CENTER – HELP COMMUNITY FOR VULNERABLE INDIVIDUALS

A Help Center began running at downtown Athens (8, Emmanouil Benaki Str.), inaugurated on July 2016 by Cardinal Montenegro – Caritas Italiana Chairman – while the Refugee Program’s Soup Kitchen was financially supported.
The Help Center aims at offering psychosocial support to migrants, refugees and mostly Greeks from the local parishes of the Catholic Church, employing experts and professionals through actions such as: counselling sessions, creative play, indoor and outdoor activities for social skills development and social integration.
– SUPPORT FOR THE ELDERLY

Duration: May 2016 – April 2017
Support the elderly at home, offering them goods and services, such as, moral support, company services and paramedical goods and aids, as well as entertaining them, organizing excursions and attending cultural events.

Food packages distributed to forty-six (46) vulnerable families.
