For the third year in a row the Union “Together for children” and the shoe company “TOMS Shoes” offered shoes to children of Greeks, migrants, and refugees – all beneficiaries of Caritas Athens’ Social Services!
Sixty-six pair of shoes were given on Thursday, May 24th to an equal number of minors, aged one to eighteen years old, offering joy and smiles to both the young and their parents.
The company adopted the philosophy One For One when it launched, offering for free a new pair of shoes for every pair bought by the consumers!
The Organization “Together for Children” is a Union of Not for Profit, Public Benefit Foundations that associated together in 1996 to join their efforts to help children in need. TOMS’ Giving Partner since 2015, it offers shoes for free, aspiring to cover the basic needs of beneficiaries all over Greece.
It is worth noting that ‘’TOMS Shoes’’, a profitable, yet socially responsible company, headquartered in Los Angeles, has become a symbol of social awareness worldwide. Its founder, Blake Mycoskie, drew inspiration for its creation in 2006 on a personal trip to Argentina where he became familiar with the work of a Non-Governmental Organization: it gathered used shoes from rich families of Buenos Aires and offered them to poor children. “I offered to help”, he had said in a statement. “The experience was pure joy. By the next day, I had conceived the founding of ‘’TOMS Shoes’’ – an abbreviation for “tomorrow shoes” – a company that would benefit the society. For each pair sold, a new pair would be offered to children who need them all over the globe.
Up to now, the company has given away over 1.000.000 pairs of shoes to 70 countries, such as Argentina, Guatemala, Haiti, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Swaziland, South Africa, the USA, and so on.
The company’s shoes are all made of environmentally friendly materials, are affordable and can be donned by students to movie stars.
Caritas Athens warmly thanks both the Union “Together for Children” and the company “ΤOMS Shoes” for supporting its activities.
