The parish of Saint Therese operates under the responsibility of the contingent of the Fathers of Metastasis (the Assompsionists). Its district of responsibility covers extends to populated areas of Athens such as Kipseli, Patisia and Galatsi.
As low-income families, as well as many foreigners reside in the area, the need for help is increased. Many people face problems of finding work, housing, mental or physical health, racism, etc.
The parochial Caritas, to the extent of its limited capabilities, supports the people in need in various ways with the help of five volunteers, under the guidance of the parish priest, f. Alekos Psaltis, by:
In total, about 25-30 people are helped every month. The Greeks amongst them constitute about the 1/3 while the rest are foreigners (permanent residents of Greece or not).
The money and the items, which are distributed, are collected mainly from parishioners as well as from third party offers (such as supermarkets, bakeries, shops etc.)
According to an agreement with a nearby supermarket, daily portions of unsold cooked food as well as food items close to their expiration date are offered.
With a respective agreement with the nearby bakery, every morning, bread or other goods, that were not sold the previous day, are distributed to people in need.
