The parochial Caritas of “The Annunciation” in Kallithea operates under the guidance of the priest, fr. Ioannis Varthalitis, and is active in Municipality of Kallithea, which is one of the largest self-governing units of Attica, where many Catholics, Greeks and foreigners, reside, especially after the migration inflows during the recent years.
The work carried out by its eight volunteers varies, while at the same time it has its full support from the local government and especially from Deputy Mayor of Citizen Service & Everyday Life, Mr Tzortzis Delatolas, who occasionally and especially during the Christmas and Easter festive seasons offers food and other essentials to fellow citizens who face economic hardship.
In addition, since the completion of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation‘s program “I Love and Offer”, the parochial Caritas provides an amount of money to 13 parishioners for their needs, while organizing meals and afternoon tea in the church hall.
Usually, the money collected for its charitable activities comes from the coffees of memorial services that take place in the Parish, while every year during the Christmas season a Bazaar is organized with offered items (clothes, shoes, books and games).
The support of the parishioners (families with children, the elderly and the homeless) is a top priority and there is no bigger satisfaction than seeing the spontaneous smile formed on their lips!
