CARITAS ATHENS & THE ELDERLY AT THE CONCERT “ALL OF GREECE MIKIS” WITH THE KIND DONATION OF THE CHARITABLE FOUNDATION TIMA

Twenty members and friends of Caritas Athens headed by the President of the Organization, Archbishop of Catholics in Athens, Sevastianos Rossolatos, attended the historic and grand concert "All Greece for Miki", under the program "Supporting the Third Age" with the kind donation of the Charitable Foundation TIMA.

At the concert-tribute to our great songwriter, which took place in the Kalimarmaro Stadium on 19th June 2017, 1.000 choirs from 30 cities of the country joined their voices for the first time, forming a huge choir, which accompanied by the Symphony Mandolinata interpreted Miki’s most important works. Excerpts from the main poetic circles were heard’ "Small Cyclades", "Axion Esti", "Epiphany", "Beautiful City", "Archipelago", "State", "Depositors", "Greetings" and "Neighborhood of Angels ", all in choral adaptation, orchestration and musical direction of the conductor Panayi Barbati.

The biggest pulse, however, was the presence of the 92-year-old Mikis Theodorakis himself, who directed two songs: "It's raining in the foothills" (from his seat) and "The hidden Periliani" (on the stage) causing a shudder of emotion to the audience that was clapping and telling him words of love and admiration.

The composer arrived in the stadium by car and was fully cheered by the audience. He joined the concert on his wheelchair due to the health problems he is facing. However, he did not hesitate to get up twice to greet the audience and tell them by a microphone "I love you", creating the emotional peak of the evening.

The concert was attended by the actors Yiannis Stankoglou and Ioanna Pappa, who read texts of the renowned writer and poet George Blana. Also the lyric artists Gina Fotinopoulou, Eleni Voudouraki, Antonis Koroneos, Babis Velissarios and Pantelis Kontos and the famous singer Gerasimos Andreatos, who sang among the choirs songs such as “Magical Night”, “Marina”, “Tu mikru voria”, “My star, my moon”, “Beautiful city”, “Chathika”, “Mera Mayiou”, “Old roads”, “I open my mouth”, “Tis dikaiosinis ilie noite”, “Myrtia”, “Margarita Magiopoula”, “Anixe ligo to parathiro”, “Tin porta anoigo to vradi”, “Asma Asmaton”, “Vradiazei”, “Feggari mayia mou kanes”, “Pios ti zoi mu”, “Ligo akoma”, “Strose to stroma su”, “Doxa to Theo”, “Varka sto yialo”, “Chrisoprasino filo” etc.

The concert was attended by the President of the Hellenic Republic, Prokopis Pavlopoulos, under the auspices of whom the evening was celebrated. Also, by the President of the Parliament Nikos Voutsis (sponsor of the event), Manolis Glezos, who was also heavily applauded and many other important personalities of the political and cultural life.
