EXCURSION TO NEA STYRA FOR SENIORS
Nea Styra was the destination of the summer excursion for Seniors, which took place on Saturday, June 4th, 2016.
This waterside settlement, lying opposite the islet of Styra, between the gulf of the Petalioi (Kolpos Petalion) and the foothills of mount Kliosi, in southwestern Evia, is the narrowest point of the island, yet a beautiful resort!
Thirty-five people from four parishes of Athens enjoyed a lovely route via Agios Stefanos and Marathonas until we reached the port of Agia Marina and boarded the ship. Almost an hour later, we arrived at our destination, where some had the chance to walk, while others had their first swim in the sea or enjoyed the view under the grapevine of the picturesque seafood restaurant where we all had lunch together later on.
The friendly atmosphere among the excursionists was culminated with the musical …intervention of Mr. Francesco’s accordion which animated everyone to dance!
Early in the afternoon, we headed back on the road to Marathonas lake, where we enjoyed having coffee by the dam overlooking the picturesque artificial lake, which was created in order to gather water and provide the water supply of Athens.
