VISIT TO THE PLANETARIUM OF THE EUGENIDES FOUNDATION
A visit to the new Digital Planetarium of the Eugenides Foundation was scheduled on Thursday 16 and Friday 17 March 2017 by Caritas Athens for the families of the beneficiaries of a shelter.
They went on a fascinating journey of discovery towards some of the most extreme planets and satellites in our Solar System through the digital show “Strange worlds in the Solar system”: from super-hot Venus to frozen Pluto, from Io’s volcanoes to the subsurface ocean hidden beneath Europa’s icy crust and from the methane seas of Titan to the far reaches of our Sun’s gravitational dominance, this show highlights the wondrous complexity of the strange worlds hidden within our Solar System which impressed the visitors, whereas on the second day another group of beneficiaries had the opportunity to enjoy the show “Fly me to the moon”, by travelling …back in time, in the year 1969, when the “Apollo 11” mission dared to go where no man had gone before: the Moon. Through the eyes of the three aspiring insects-astronauts: Nat, IQ and Scooter, adults and children were introduced to space exploration and the historic moment when the world was united for this awe-inspiring achievement of the NASA astronauts and scientists.
Caritas Athens would like to express special thanks for the perfect collaboration with the Eugenides Foundation, as well as to Dr. Manos Kitsonas, Director of the New Digital Planetarium, for organizing and implementing the visit.
